HC meet Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo
Pakistan’s High Commissioner, H.E. Major General (Retd) Dr. Nayyar Naseer, HI (M), paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, to discuss dynamic avenues of bilateral educational collaboration and cooperation. During the productive meeting, the High Commissioner proposed establishing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the university to promote national languages—both Urdu and Sinhala—alongside putting forward ideas for student and faculty exchanges between leading Pakistani universities and the University of Colombo, and the establishment of a dedicated cultural center for which the Vice Chancellor agreed to allocate space. Furthermore, the High Commissioner apprised the Vice Chancellor of an upcoming delegation from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan visiting Sri Lanka, noting that they plan to organize an exclusive educational seminar in collaboration with the university to raise wider awareness of Pakistani educational opportunities and the Allama Iqbal Scholarship Program. Warmly welcoming the initiative to facilitate the visiting delegation, the Vice Chancellor expressed keen interest in expanding institutional cooperation into the fields of disaster management, medicine, and technology, while assuring maximum institutional support to foster these academic ties; concluding the insightful dialogue, the High Commissioner extended a formal invitation to the Vice Chancellor to visit Pakistan to further solidify these academic frameworks.
