Message from the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Sri Lanka on Defence and Martyrs Day 2025

Today we are observing 60th Defence and Martyrs Day of Pakistan, a day of national pride, reflection, and gratitude. It marks the historic moment in 1965 when the people and armed forces of Pakistan stood united to defend the motherland against overwhelming aggression. This day is also a solemn reminder of the supreme sacrifices made by our valiant soldiers and citizens in safeguarding our sovereignty.
September 6, 1965 stands as a testament to the unwavering resolve and indomitable spirit of the Pakistani nation. On this historic day, our valiant soldiers, backed by the steadfast support of their people, rose as an unbreakable shield against unprovoked aggression, shattering the designs of an enemy superior in numbers and arms. Their unmatched courage and supreme sacrifices engraved an eternal truth upon the pages of history: a nation united in purpose can never be defeated.
Over the years, Pakistan’s armed forces have continued to demonstrate courage and resilience, from combating terrorism to protecting national borders against unprovoked hostilities. Pakistan’s actions remain guided by the principles of peace, stability, and the resolution of disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.
Kashmir continues to be the core issue between Pakistan and India, where the people have long been denied their right to self-determination. Pakistan stands firmly with them and calls upon the international community to ensure a just and peaceful settlement in accordance with UN resolutions. At the same time, Pakistan unequivocally condemns terrorism in all its forms and has itself been a victim of this scourge for more than two decades.
On this occasion, we pay tribute to the brave sons and daughters of Pakistan who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation. We also pray for the victims of the recent floods, their families and all those affected by this national calamity across Pakistan. May Pakistan continue to flourish, may our enduring friendship with Sri Lanka grow stronger, and may peace prevail in the world.
