Message by the High Commissioner of Pakistan in Sri Lanka Major General (Retd) Faheem Ul Aziz on the occasion of Independence Day of Pakistan 14th August 2025

On the auspicious occasion of the 79th Independence Day of Pakistan, I extend warm greetings and sincere best wishes from the government and people of Pakistan to the government and friendly people of Sri Lanka. This day is not only a celebration of Pakistan’s journey as a sovereign nation, but also an opportunity to reaffirm the enduring bonds of friendship and cooperation that bring us together.
August 14th marks a significant day in Pakistan’s history, commemorating the successful culmination of a long and arduous struggle by the Muslims of the Subcontinent. Under the dynamic leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Pakistan emerged as a sovereign state 78 years ago, embodying the vision of a modern and progressive nation. The government and people of Pakistan remain committed to realizing this vision by building a moderate, self-reliant, and Islamic welfare state.
This year’s celebration holds a special significance, as it follows the successful Operation Bunyan un Marsoos by Pakistan Armed Forces in response to India’s blatant aggression and baseless allegations against Pakistan. This successful action served as a clear testament that, any future threat to our national security will be met with even stronger, fierce, and decisive response, affirming the preparedness and professionalism of our armed forces and their dedication to the defense of the homeland. Moreover, use of water as a weapon in the region will not be tolerated ever, and will be dealt with effective response on all available forums.
It is a source of great satisfaction that Pakistan and Sri Lanka continue to enjoy close and mutually beneficial relations across all sectors. This bilateral cooperation has been significantly strengthened by increased interactions between public officials and high-level government functionaries of our two friendly nations.
Our historical ties, rooted in the Indus and Gandhara civilizations and Buddhist culture, span over 2,500 years. Both countries have made impressive efforts to preserve and build upon these solid foundations. The relationship between Sri Lanka and Pakistan is one of mutual choice and can serve as a shining example of cooperation at the bilateral, regional, and international levels.
As Sri Lanka works towards a future of peace, stability, and progress, the government and people of Pakistan stand in solidarity with you. We are confident that a promising future is on the horizon.
On this occasion, I take the opportunity to extend our best wishes for the continued progress, prosperity, and peace of the people and Government of Sri Lanka in the years ahead.
