Gen. (R) Dr. Shahid Ahmad Hashmat called on Sri\nLankan President H.E. Maithripala Sirisena on 20<sup>th<\/sup> August 2019 to apprise\nhim about the current situation in the Indian Occupied Jammu &amp; Kashmir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During\nthe meeting, the High Commissioner briefed the President about India\u2019s illegal\nand unilateral actions seeking to alter the disputed status of Indian occupied Jammu\nand Kashmir and its demographic structure by revoking Article 370 and 35A. He\nalso apprised the President of the deteriorating human rights and humanitarian\nsituation in the Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir, which has been under total\nlockdown and curfew since 5<sup>th<\/sup> August 2019.&nbsp;He added that these steps were in\ncontravention of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions on\nJammu and Kashmir and the International Law.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nPresident acknowledged that Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed territory and expressed\nhis desire that this dispute should be resolved according to wishes of\nKashmiris under UN Resolutions. He also offered Sri Lanka\u2019s mediation and\nfacilitation of dialogue between Pakistan and India to re-activate the SAARC\nforum. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\nfurther said that resolution of Kashmir issue is essential for permanent peace\nand stability in the region. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>High Commissioner of Pakistan, Maj.
