Gen. (R) Dr. Shahid Ahmad Hashmat in a ceremony held at the High Commission\nof Pakistan on April 16, 2019 to hand over donations, including basic amenities\nworth of SL Rs. 0.7 million to Ragama Adolescent &amp; Adult Thalassemia Care\nCentre, North Colombo Teaching Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The High Commissioner said that due to\nremarkable success in the reduction of childhood mortality by controlling\ninfectious diseases in developing countries, thalassemias are likely to be a\nmajor public health concern in the coming decades in South Asia.
