(R) Dr. Shahid Ahmad Hashmat unfurled the Pakistani flag to the tune of\nPakistan\u2019s national anthem in a ceremony held at the Pakistan High Commission\nthis morning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Day of\nPakistan is celebrated on 23<sup>rd<\/sup> March every year in remembrance of\nthe historic 1940 resolution passed in Lahore, calling for a separate homeland\nfor Muslims of the subcontinent that ultimately led to the creation of Pakistan\non August 14, 1947.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Special messages by the\nPresident and the Prime Minister of Pakistan were readout, in which both the\nleaders highlighted the importance of the day and paid tributes to Quaid-e-Azam\nMuhammad Ali Jinnah, Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal and other leaders of the\nPakistan Movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of ceremony,\na cake commemorating the Pakistan\u2019s National Day was cut by the High\nCommissioner along with children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nceremony was attended by the members of Pakistani community based in Sri Lanka,\na large number of participants from various walks of life and media\nrepresentatives.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The High Commission of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Pakistani community based in Sri Lanka celebrated the 79th&nbsp;National Day of Pakistan with traditional fervour and resolve to make Pakistan a strong, vibrant, progressive, democratic and welfare state.
