{"id":5380,"date":"2016-06-16T16:46:34","date_gmt":"2016-06-16T11:16:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pakistanhc.lk\/?p=5380"},"modified":"2020-01-09T00:13:23","modified_gmt":"2020-01-08T18:43:23","slug":"polonnaruwa-to-host-the-most-sacred-buddhist-relics-from-taxila-pakistan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pakistanhc.lk\/?p=5380","title":{"rendered":"Polonnaruwa to host the Most Sacred Buddhist Relics from Taxila Pakistan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"right\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pakistanhc.lk\/2016\/06\/polonnaruwa-to-host-the-most-sacred-buddhist-relics-from-taxila-pakistan\/401cdbbb-5330-40f8-a1a3-0c589274e8b2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5381\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5381\" title=\"401cdbbb-5330-40f8-a1a3-0c589274e8b2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pakistanhc.lk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/401cdbbb-5330-40f8-a1a3-0c589274e8b2.jpg\" alt=\"Polonnaruwa to host the Most Sacred Buddhist Relics from Taxila Pakistan\" width=\"836\" height=\"479\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Most Sacred Relics of Lord Buddha from Taxila Pakistan are currently being exhibiting for the general public in Bodirukkaramaya, Diyasenpure, Medirigiriya, for two days from\u00a0June 16 to 17, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After the two days long exposition in\u00a0Polonnaruwa\u00a0the sacred relics of the Lord Buddha will be taken to Anuradhapura for exposition on\u00a018 and 19th \u00a0June, 2016.\u00a0Thereafter, the holy relics will be taken to\u00a0Kandy for exposition on\u00a020 and 21st Junebefore\u00a0bringing them back to Colombo on\u00a022nd June 2016.<\/p>\n<p>The sacred relics include two holy bone relics of the Buddha, a golden casket containing the relics and a stone reliquary in stupa shape.\u00a0The relic casket of steatite with a miniature gold casket inside, containing holy bone relics were discovered near the Dharmarajika stupa in Taxila Pakistan. The steatite casket is 7.5 inch high and has been well turned on the lath. It has adorned with shallow incised lines round its body and provided with handle on the led in the shape of a miniature casket.<\/p>\n<p>Dharmarajika stupa is the earliest and the largest Buddhist religious complex at Taxila. It is situated on the bank of Dharma rivulet. It was built to enshrine the redistributed holy relics of the Buddha by the famous Mauryan king Asoka the great who was also known as Dharmaraja for his services to Buddhism. Thus it named Dharmarajika.<\/p>\n<p>Dharmarajika was excavated by Ghulam Qadir in 1912-16 under the directions of Sir John Marshall and A.D Siddiqui in 1934-36. The circular stupa has a diameter of 131 feet and 45 feet high drum, constructed in solid stone masonry.<\/p>\n<p>The Gandhara civilization was not only the center of spiritual influence but also the cradle of the world famous Gandhara culture, art and learning.
