Administrative Setup

Pakistan has four provinces viz., Balochistan, North West Frontier Province (NWFP), Punjab and Sindh. The tribal belt adjoining NWFP is managed by the Federal Government and is called FATA (Federally Administered Tribal Areas). Azad Kashmir and Northern Areas have their separate political and administrative setups, yet some of their subjects are looked after by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Northern Areas. Various Provinces of Pakistan are further divided into Divisions, Districts and sub-districts (Tehsils).

  • With the economic growth rate maintaining its pace this year too, Pakistan's economy has grown at an average of 7% during the past five years (July2003-June2007) and at an average of 7.5% in four years (2004-07), making it one of the fastest growing economies in the region

  • Foreign direct investment (FDI) of $6.5 billion
  • Sharp pickup in overall investment reaching 23% of GDP
  • Robust growth in Agriculture, manufacturing and services sectors
  • $5.5 billion Foreign remittances by the Pakistani community
  • Foreign exchange reserves of $16.34 billion
  • Continuingly stable exchange rate for several years
  • This year's economic growth is mainly driven by strong domestic demand, with investment taking lead over consumption for the first time in last three years.

Parliament

Parliament consists of two Houses i.e., the Senate (Upper House) and the National Assembly (Lower House).  

The Senate is a permanent legislative body symbolizing continuity in the national political affairs. Senate has 100 members. The four Provincial Assemblies, Federally Administered Tribal Areas and the Federal Capital constitute the electoral college for the Upper House. 

The National Assembly has 342 Members (272 general seats, 60 women seats and 10 non-Muslim seats), who are elected through adult suffrage .

Pakistan National Flag

Dark green with a white vertical bar, a white crescent and a five-pointed star in the middle. The Flag symbolizes Pakistan's profound commitment to Islam, the Islamic world and the rights of religious minorities.
